Difference maker boxes - great on things like vocals recorded with consumer gear, software synths that sound a bit clinical, bass DIs with uneven performances.
Sometimes they want the real ones with the buttons and knobs ... so hey - that's what I do.
@bethlucasmusic's latest 'What I Deserved' has been a long time coming. I first heard the song quite some time ago and loved it. I'm so glad I got to work on it and it's out! Cover art edit and BVs by @lixcreative, drums/bass/guitar/BVs/production/mix/master by me, the legendary (now Canada-based) Bruce Hoffman on fiddle and steel and I hope the winner really is Beth's tune. Hire Lix and I to do things for your music - we're really good and in the current climate where AI is eating into both of our worlds, it is a shame if we go to waste 😂 Beth’s tune is out now on all exploitative platforms, including those that accept 50,000 ‘sound-a-like’ AI generated ‘songs’ a day and fund weapons of war!
Messing around on my pretty new Tele - an Artist Guitars AT53 with WAAAH pickups. It's really nice to be excited about guitars again - I haven't played this much in about 15 years. #musicproduction #musicproducer #guitar #electricguitars
Congrats @bethlucasmusic for taking out this award while performing in Tamworth for her tune ‘What I Deserved’. I’ve been a big fan of this one for a couple of years now! Played a little drums, bass, acoustic guitar and Wurli. Collaborated with regular gun (and now Canadian) Bruce Hoffman on fiddle and lap steel. Such a pleasure to team up again on this track! Looking forward to this one coming out soon, it was fun to work on in the second half of last year.
LP City … new pickups for a bunch of these workhorses . . Great to use them on a few projects over the last few weeks. Sounding incredible!
I don’t usually personalise or customise stuff I own (especially things like music gear as it’s all become part of my work tools .. in a sad way!) but I really love my new Tele. Full of stickers from Japan based @bsidelabel5892 (Kichijōji, Shimokitazawa, Harajuku stores). Featuring WAAAH pickups that sound incredible and feature coil tapping in the neck pickup to split between Alnico 5 and Alnico 3 sounds. The body is super light as it’s made from Paulownia. Made by @artistguitars - amazing neck with stainless frets. I’ll do a video some time about it with some samples.
Shutdown - heaps of mixing and mastering these days which is refreshing in many ways. But, it’s always fantastic to spend some time on the keys designing some super unique sounds on the analog synths!
One of several magazine interviews over the years - this one was from Australian Guitar Magazine when they let Jeff Buckley share that edition with me. Nice folks!
This one is seriously from the vault! 22 years ago in 2003 playing guitar with @eden_james at @thetivolibrisbane. On the bill was also Shifter and Halfway. Music looked like fun back then - it would be great to recapture that feeling. Sorry about your arpeggiated jangly guitar parts @mcfamesy … looks like I was in a Frusciante window.
Tokyo’s real icons. Stick with me for more incredible ‘travelling in Japan’ content like this.
One of the highlights of this trip was jamming on the keys along with @toshi_kasuga (drums), @takahiro_shikanai (guitar) and @geshige (bass). We knocked over two tunes and we’ll work some more on them remotely until we finish them off. Until next time dudes! この旅のハイライトの一つは、@toshi_kasuga(ドラム)、@takahiro_shikanai(ギター)、@geshige(ベース)と一緒にキーボードでジャムったことでした。2曲を仕上げて、残りはリモートで仕上げる予定です。また次回、みんな!
Kōenji festival 2025. Cool music and other entertainment in the area around the station.
Blue Note Tokyo to catch Les Claypool's Bastard Jazz project.
Knocking over some BVs for a @bethlucasmusic thing … a rare thing for me!
Some prep work in Melbourne before heading out.
Having a think about not using my ears so much! Huge week of creation and analysis, as always.
These @behringer pedals are the real deal. Picked up the B-Tron, Octave Divider and Bass Brassmaster. I’ve owned the real ones and their copies sound legit!
