One of the greatest analog synths around - the rack-mounted Roland Super Jupiter (MKS-80) is hooked up and ready for use. It was an incredible challenge getting this beast to work … there was a lot wrong with it, but I persevered and I’m really proud of myself for diagnosing all the issues and solving them. Get in touch if you need music made and we can use this gem!
Replaced the PSU inside the Yamaha KX88 keyboard this evening with the Mean Well PT-65C. I absolutely love the feeling of the keys on this beast from the 80s and now it’ll last another 40 years. No modern weighted keyboard I’ve tried is anywhere near as good! A huge thanks to @lixcreative for her superior dexterity and help getting it all installed. ❤️
Two kings of 80s synthesis - the Yamaha DX7 II FD and the Roland D50. I’m definitely more of a Roland synth cat, but the DX7 has been on some seriously iconic tunes! Both incredibly complex with infinite sound generation potential.
Hopefully replacing a couple of CEM3340 chips (all the way from Portugal) on the lower module board of this beast will bring it back to life. One of the great analog synths - the Roland Super Jupiter / MKS-80.
Vintage Roland synth resuscitation. Might have to special order some chips for this guy … but it will be worth it.
Confusion ensues when your client uses a photo of your own studio space as their background in the video collab session.
Kind of reggae jam thing from Tokyo 2023 with @geshige on bass and @toshi_kasuga on the kit. Can’t wait to catch these cool cats again.
Warwick and Wurli. The Warwick 5 string is a relatively new addition (a few years maybe) and is equal parts funky and heavy. The Wurli in the background is a newer one … it has a story that I’ll tell soon!
Complete overhaul of the circuits in the vintage Wurlitzer 200A. Will probably make a video with this very special unit once I’ve got it sorted. Glorious tones from one of the greatest electric pianos ever made.
The Sennheiser 441 - the best dynamic mic ever made … sounds good on … everything!
Finally solved a power supply issue in some of my preamps that caused them to turn off after a little while. Back into the rack with a new part and bigger heatsink!
Replacing some ICs in an old synth’s midi board … hopefully I can breathe some new life into it!
Fair to say guitar pedals have changed over the years.
New addition - all the way from 1978 the DBX 165 compressor. With ‘Over Easy’ soft knee compression as an option and full control of attack & release times. This thing is a monster on kick, bass and vocals. Vibe for days.
Some live recording last night at @bris_powerhouse. Great facility with super nice staff - thanks for letting me take up some space Adam, Skye and Jo ✌🏻
The non-existent, never released 1176JN compressor. Almost every vocal clients send me for their productions or mixes ends up going through these units. Even without compression engaged they have a lovely filtering sound. Built in house by my well-used musician’s hands!
A rack of Neve 1272 and SSL 9000 inspired preamps … doing some maintenance to keep them in tip top shape.
RIP Quincy … a trailblazer from the top shelf.
