Yesterday in Ballarat with my great friend Ric Formosa. Love this guy - one of Australia’s best composers and players with a million great stories from Italy, Canada and his time in the early days of Little River Band. Hopefully we can spend much more time together in the near future!
Not everything about working on tunes is black and white … but this photo is.
Always a great pleasure to put some music down for Lix North Artist's process videos. Her new works are amazing as always!
Car session yesterday - dropped in some tracks from a session player in America, did some backing vocals on a couple of songs (@seelectronics DCM8 shoved into the steering wheel!).
First time all three of us have been in the same space at the same time … a LOT of records made between us. A lot of stories and knowledge shared that I’m grateful for. Thanks Caleb and Steve ✌🏻❤️
Asked @stevenpope to keep the same vibe in a song at 3:08 … Siri decided it was worth setting a reminder for at 3:08pm.
Had a chat with these cool cats recently about whether pop music has an algorithm!
A slightly apocalyptic #Brisbane from Mt Coot-tha.
Working on some tunes for a songwriter down in Tasmania with a ‘pyschadelic / spaghetti western’ direction. Heaps of fun leaning into stuff like this with the aim to be creative and super vibey.
One of the best records I’ve ever worked on. Give it a listen! Adelaide's Kahl Wallis (of The Medics) is releasing tracks from his album we made together a few years ago: https://www.abc.net.au/triplejunearthed/artist/kahlwallis
Reflecting.
Complete! Two more SSL 9000k preamps to add to the collection. These two will probably sit on the mix bus for the foreseeable future and print into every project when it comes to the final mix. They include a really nice HPF on the bottom Grayhill knob too!
Knocking over two more SSL 9000 style preamps designed by @seventhcircleaudio. Great to use on acoustic instruments and also as a fantastic summing option to tighten up low end.
Cool to see the new Ruler of Sweden - one of Adelaide’s deadliest @simiv1music at #eurovision with @electricfields_music.
Today’s literal office #musicprodction
If any level of the Australian Government cared about culture, the operating costs for live music venues like rent, insurance and legally required minimums of security at would be subsidised, capped or classed differently. People owning and running these venues are not property developers or people pocketing money/equity from increased land value ... they aren't even running a traditional business - they're spending their life/time contributing to the good of society. Venues like this are regularly closing down across the whole country and nothing has been implemented to reverse it in my lifetime. Now music festivals can barely operate either. We are destined for mediocrity in this country and will never have anything similar to the vibrant cultures of Europe, Asia or the Americas if all levels of Government keep insisting on listening to lobbyists from insurance groups, property developers, car manufacturers, mining companies etc etc etc and allowing them to influence laws that impact our lives.
Playing keys on a few tunes this week …. Great sounds from @uaudio and @weareuvi
