Ready for action – the Wurlitzer 200A. This thing makes me play in a completely unique way … I look for notes and phrasing I just don’t go for on other instruments!

One of the greatest analog synths around – the rack-mounted Roland Super Jupiter (MKS-80) is hooked up and ready for use.

It was an incredible challenge getting this beast to work … there was a lot wrong with it, but I persevered and I’m really proud of myself for diagnosing all the issues and solving them.

Get in touch if you need music made and we can use this gem!

Replaced the PSU inside the Yamaha KX88 keyboard this evening with the Mean Well PT-65C.

I absolutely love the feeling of the keys on this beast from the 80s and now it’ll last another 40 years. No modern weighted keyboard I’ve tried is anywhere near as good!

A huge thanks to @lixcreative for her superior dexterity and help getting it all installed. ❤️

Two kings of 80s synthesis – the Yamaha DX7 II FD and the Roland D50. I’m definitely more of a Roland synth cat, but the DX7 has been on some seriously iconic tunes! Both incredibly complex with infinite sound generation potential.

Hopefully replacing a couple of CEM3340 chips (all the way from Portugal) on the lower module board of this beast will bring it back to life. One of the great analog synths – the Roland Super Jupiter / MKS-80.

Vintage Roland synth resuscitation. Might have to special order some chips for this guy … but it will be worth it.

Kind of reggae jam thing from Tokyo 2023 with @geshige on bass and @toshi_kasuga on the kit. Can’t wait to catch these cool cats again.

Warwick and Wurli. The Warwick 5 string is a relatively new addition (a few years maybe) and is equal parts funky and heavy. The Wurli in the background is a newer one … it has a story that I’ll tell soon!

Complete overhaul of the circuits in the vintage Wurlitzer 200A. Will probably make a video with this very special unit once I’ve got it sorted. Glorious tones from one of the greatest electric pianos ever made.

New addition – all the way from 1978 the DBX 165 compressor. With ‘Over Easy’ soft knee compression as an option and full control of attack & release times. This thing is a monster on kick, bass and vocals. Vibe for days.

The non-existent, never released 1176JN compressor.

Almost every vocal clients send me for their productions or mixes ends up going through these units. Even without compression engaged they have a lovely filtering sound.

Built in house by my well-used musician’s hands!

Portable setup getting the job done today in #Brisbane.

Knocked over takes of acoustic guitars and vocals for two tunes. Made the rest of the music remotely from video demos and got some help from @stevenpope on the kit from sunny #Melbourne.

A classic that I don’t play enough.

Great to smash the unmistakable tones of the Strat today in a session.

Love the large 70s headstock!

Good times all this week and next with Roy’s super weird and epic tunes. He’s tuning in from Brisbane, Steve Pope – Drummer is working out drum parts from Melbourne, and I’m in the mountains making all the jokes.

All of us can hear studio quality audio as well, which makes it feel like we’re in the same room (for better or worse!).

Yesterday in Ballarat with my great friend Ric Formosa. Love this guy – one of Australia’s best composers and players with a million great stories from Italy, Canada and his time in the early days of Little River Band. Hopefully we can spend much more time together in the near future!

Complete! Two more SSL 9000k preamps to add to the collection. These two will probably sit on the mix bus for the foreseeable future and print into every project when it comes to the final mix. They include a really nice HPF on the bottom Grayhill knob too!

If any level of the Australian Government cared about culture, the operating costs for live music venues like rent, insurance and legally required minimums of security at would be subsidised, capped or classed differently.

People owning and running these venues are not property developers or people pocketing money/equity from increased land value … they aren’t even running a traditional business – they’re spending their life/time contributing to the good of society.

Venues like this are regularly closing down across the whole country and nothing has been implemented to reverse it in my lifetime.

Now music festivals can barely operate either.

We are destined for mediocrity in this country and will never have anything similar to the vibrant cultures of Europe, Asia or the Americas if all levels of Government keep insisting on listening to lobbyists from insurance groups, property developers, car manufacturers, mining companies etc etc etc and allowing them to influence laws that impact our lives.
