The latest updates from JNP 📰

Behind a tiny white desk over the weekend while doing some live recording with the cats at JMI – Jazz Music Institute. They knocked over some parts for a ‘real instruments’ revamp of the Brisbane Lions club song. Watch this space!

No, it’s not 1990, 2010 or 2015 … it’s May 2025.
If you want your music to succeed – get an advertising company to relentlessly deliver it into people’s ears and you will still be topping charts decades later.
Good luck new artists!

Tone and vibe for days with the Wurli. Have enjoyed spending time with this guy – just the two of us.

Knocked over an acoustic pop track today for a solo artist remotely … huge sounds!

Ready for action – the Wurlitzer 200A. This thing makes me play in a completely unique way … I look for notes and phrasing I just don’t go for on other instruments!

One of the greatest analog synths around – the rack-mounted Roland Super Jupiter (MKS-80) is hooked up and ready for use.
It was an incredible challenge getting this beast to work … there was a lot wrong with it, but I persevered and I’m really proud of myself for diagnosing all the issues and solving them.
Get in touch if you need music made and we can use this gem!

Replaced the PSU inside the Yamaha KX88 keyboard this evening with the Mean Well PT-65C.
I absolutely love the feeling of the keys on this beast from the 80s and now it’ll last another 40 years. No modern weighted keyboard I’ve tried is anywhere near as good!
A huge thanks to @lixcreative for her superior dexterity and help getting it all installed. ❤️

Two kings of 80s synthesis – the Yamaha DX7 II FD and the Roland D50. I’m definitely more of a Roland synth cat, but the DX7 has been on some seriously iconic tunes! Both incredibly complex with infinite sound generation potential.
February 28, 2025

Hopefully replacing a couple of CEM3340 chips (all the way from Portugal) on the lower module board of this beast will bring it back to life. One of the great analog synths – the Roland Super Jupiter / MKS-80.
February 14, 2025

Vintage Roland synth resuscitation. Might have to special order some chips for this guy … but it will be worth it.
February 6, 2025

Confusion ensues when your client uses a photo of your own studio space as their background in the video collab session.
February 4, 2025
Kind of reggae jam thing from Tokyo 2023 with @geshige on bass and @toshi_kasuga on the kit. Can’t wait to catch these cool cats again.
February 2, 2025

Warwick and Wurli. The Warwick 5 string is a relatively new addition (a few years maybe) and is equal parts funky and heavy. The Wurli in the background is a newer one … it has a story that I’ll tell soon!
January 26, 2025

Complete overhaul of the circuits in the vintage Wurlitzer 200A. Will probably make a video with this very special unit once I’ve got it sorted. Glorious tones from one of the greatest electric pianos ever made.
January 13, 2025

The Sennheiser 441 – the best dynamic mic ever made … sounds good on … everything!
January 7, 2025

Finally solved a power supply issue in some of my preamps that caused them to turn off after a little while. Back into the rack with a new part and bigger heatsink!
December 25, 2024

Replacing some ICs in an old synth’s midi board … hopefully I can breathe some new life into it!

I encourage anyone who is or has worked in the Australian music industry to complete this survey.
It will help give a more accurate picture of some of the working environments, expectations and situations workers have found themselves in, and be part of helping to improve things for everyone ✌🏻

Southern Rock with the power of a thousand fires 🔥
Produced, recorded, mixed, mastered here at JNP with Mark Henman on the kit, and me on the rest (but ahh …not the singing bit).

April 28, 2022
I built these Seventh Circle Audio preamps around 10 years ago – Neve, API, Melennia, Hardy style for some vibe and recently built their newer SSL9000 which is gloriously clean. Great tones!

April 22, 2022
End of another week – this one full of mixing. This week also marked another year since Prince left and it’s cool having a little version of him watching on and keeping my standards high!
